Palazzo Seneca was built in the sixteenth century by the homonymous family originally from Piedivalle, it was the first hotel in Norcia and one of the first in Umbria, having been in operation since the early 1900s. The structure underwent an important restoration following the 1997 earthquake which ended with the reopening in June 2008, returning to be one of the most beautiful monuments of Norcia. Palazzo Seneca is considered a highly safe building from an anti-seismic point of view. The structure has passed all the checks carried out by Civil Protection technicians and by a highly specialized team of engineers and technical experts following the seismic events that involved all of central Italy starting from 24 August 2016.
Palazzo Seneca was born from the idea of Vincenzo and Federico Bianconi, the last generation of a family of hoteliers since 1850. A noble palace of 1500, in the artistic heart of Norcia, a few steps from the main square of San Benedetto, between the Castello del Vignola and the convent of San Francesco, the latter transformed in recent years into an elegant auditorium.
From the beginning of its activity, Palazzo Seneca wanted to be a unique hotel and address customers interested in sustainability. The Palace has undergone a major restoration and has not reported any damage after the seismic event that hit Norcia and its surroundings in 2016. The restoration aimed to preserve the original decoration and design and, to achieve this, over 95% of the hotel’s decorations, furniture and décor were created in Umbria. The idea was to make guests feel at home in an Umbrian palace, removing the idea of sterile and too elaborate environments to offer the warmth and charm of a place rich in history.
Palazzo Seneca is a responsible and successful hotel project for the protection of the environment, which makes guests’ stay eco-sustainable without sacrificing comfort, luxury and exclusivity. From sustainable electric autonomy to the choice of eliminating the use of plastic for staff and guests. From the use of seasonal ingredients for cooking to close collaboration with suppliers participating in ecological certification programs. With this vision, Palazzo Seneca promotes the culture of organic food and the territorial approach by orienting development towards the conservation of resources, environmental sustainability, the enhancement of local differences and, therefore, the quality of life.

At Vespasia the guest can also choose his seat, from comfortable padded wooden chairs or large leather armchairs, both made by Umbrian master craftsmen. The table can be in the intimate room of the “black” fireplace, among wines, candles and wooden furniture, or between the lemon house and the old stable overlooking the internal garden. When the season allows it you can eat outside where, in addition to the tranquility, you can appreciate the views of towers, bell towers and, in the distance, the Sibillini mountains.
The scent of aromatic herbs from the garden completes a location of absolute quality. In the evening the Vespasia restaurant expresses its maximum charm, all the candles are lit, the lights are dimmed, the uniformed staff checks that everything is perfect, we go on stage! The silverware, crystal glasses and white tablecloths are preparing to take a back seat. The dishes prepared by Chef Valentino Palmisano and his staff will soon arrive, the real protagonists at the Vespasia restaurant.
In the recipes of Vespasia you can find elegance, research, tradition, creativity and a lot of professional ethics.
